Summer Day Trips: Palmdale to Oxnard

Located just an hour and a half away, Oxnard is worlds away from Palmdale as it boasts sunny skies and sandy beaches that beckon you to dip your toes in the water.

Not nearly as far as Big Bear Lake, and not nearly as secluded, Oxnard is a great area for trying wine and new restaurants. Plus you can find the renowned strawberry and artichoke farms.

If you want to hang with the locals, visit historic F and G Streets. And, if you love all things spicy, keep in mind that there are 20 Mexican restaurants within an 8-block radius.

There are also three wineries on the Ventura County Wine Trail; Herzog, Magnavino, and Rancho Ventavo.

And here’s a fun fact: In 1921, Paramount Studios used the local beach for the films Egypt, and The Sheik. The area also housed famous celebrity Clark Gable.

Personalized Father’s Day Gifts

Father’s Day is about celebrating the man who raised and shaped you.

He introduced you to Nirvana and taught you how to tie your shoes and ride a bike. He made you a swing set and a wooden skateboard.

So why not go back to your roots of homemade gifts and gift him with something memorable and inventive?

While you may not exactly want to make a hand traced “turkey” card, or glue a bunch of cotton balls to construction paper, think about all the homemade items you can find on Etsy that are both personal and useful.

Is your dad the handyman around the house? Then think about getting him a hammer with a meaningful engraving in the handle.

Does he love making wooden furniture? A laser printed wood slice with a picture of your family is definitely unique and affordable.

For the father that love camping, get him a personalized engraved pocket knife.

DIY Summer Inspired Centerpieces

Flowers are a true staple for making dull days a little brighter; so why not make a beautiful arrangement to stand as the focal point of your living room.

It’ll add color for a fraction of the price that redecorating would cost you.

Plus, there’s plenty of room for creativity, but remember to use seasonal flowers.

  • Using thin-steed bottles, arrange small flowers around larger ones, and place only one or two stems in each bottle for a chic and airy feel.
  • Add some intrigue to your kitchen table by garnishing with fresh herbs arranged in vintage mustard tins. Pour some water in the bottom to precent wilting.

  •  A vintage silver water pitcher can double as a sturdy vase. Use it to show off bundles of red and white radishes, held together by rubber bands.

Ideas for Making Spring Cleaning Fun

Instead of thinking of spring cleaning as a chore, make the best out of it and have a little fun. Sure cleaning the kitchen is a lot less glamorous than getting served at a 5-star restaurant, but this work needs to be done.

So how do you make it less tedious and mundane?

Have fun with it! If that means blasting music, and pretending like you’re at a karaoke bar as you sweep up the dirt, then do it! Other people swear by using silly or loud colored cleaning tools, from a pink vacuum, to a polka dotted broom.

Who said cleaning supplies had to be ugly?

And of course, you can throw in a cute pair of rubber gloves and a colorful plastic tote.
